Debit & Credit 3.1: Apple Card, Share Extension, Siri Shortcuts
I am excited to tell you about the latest new features in Debit & Credit. Let’s get started!
This article was updated to include information about version 3.1.1.
Quick Cashback Entry for Apple Card
As you probably know, Apple Card is a consumer credit card that offers up to 3% cashback on purchases. It is very easy to create cashback transactions for Apple Card in Debit & Credit.
When you create a new expense transaction on “Apple Card” account in the app it will suggest creating a new cashback transaction on “Apple Cash” account straight away. All you have to do is to create those two accounts in the app: “Apple Card” and “Apple Cash”. Here is a demo:
Share Extension
Now you can share a PDF or an image from any other app to quickly create a new transaction with that file in Debit & Credit. This is very useful if you often create new transactions with invoices or receipts that you get via email.
Moreover, the app will analyze files you share with it and it will try to suggest the relevant payee, category and account when possible. With time as the app learns your files it might be able to extract amounts as well.
Search Filter Suggestions (iOS)
When you open search in the app you will see suggestions for an additional filter (e.g. transactions with attachments, transactions created by other users, etc). This is a great way to quickly make your search request more granular. In iOS 13 this will look even better with the new system provided icons that are also placed in the search field.
New Configurable Siri Shortcuts (iOS 13.1)
Now you can create a configurable Siri shortcut for a particular transaction. What this means is that when you run this shortcut Siri will ask you for a transaction amount and then will create a new transaction with other parameters (payee, category, etc).
This is great for creating new transactions on the go. You can create a single Siri shortcut for something like your favourite grocery store and use that shortcut via Siri every time you shop there. To create a new shortcut, just tap on a transaction in the app and select the relevant option.
New Document Scanner (iOS 13)
When you tap on a camera button when creating a new transaction in iOS 13, you will see a new document scanner provided by iOS 13. This is even better experience for scanning documents and attaching them to your transactions.
Full Support for Dynamic Font Size (iOS)
Dynamic font size is a custom font size that you set in the iOS system settings. Previously the app supported dynamic font size only in the transaction list and some other parts of the app. Now it is supported everywhere.
Quick Multiple Selection of Transactions (iOS 13)
The app has adopted a new system gesture available in iOS 13. You can quickly select multiple transactions within the same day by swiping down two fingers on them.
New Date Periods for the Wealth Forecast Report
Now you can select from next 3, 5 or 10 years when forecasting your net wealth or account balance.
Full Integration With Shortcuts app (iOS 13)
Debit & Credit can now be be used a separate configurable action in the Shortcuts app. You can dynamically assign all parameters for a new transaction, including attachments.
Unlock with Apple Watch (macOS Catalina, watchOS 6)
If you have enabled PIN code in the Mac app, you can now unlock the app with your Apple Watch. Small but very nice feature.
Improved Color Schemes (iOS)
Existing color schemes very improved to provide better contrast. If previously you did not use one of the custom color schemes, now it is time to give it a second chance.
Improved Payee Location in Shopping Centres (iOS)
Since the very first version Debit & Credit offered payee geolocation. The idea is quite simple. If you go to a certain store often enough, you can save its location. Next time you shop there and create a new expense in Debit & Credit, it will automatically suggest the relevant payee (and its last used category) based on your location.
This feature is now improved for shopping centres that have indoor mapping in Apple Maps. The app will now save not just geographical location (latitude and longitude) but also its floor level. After that the app will suggest this payee only if you are located on the correct level in a shopping centre.
Improved Apple Watch App (version 3.1.1)
If you create a new transaction on Apple Watch and your iPhone is not nearby, the watch app will try saving this transaction directly to iCloud.
Move Transactions to Different Account via Drag and Drop (iPad, version 3.1.1)
When multiple transactions are selected on iPad, you can use drag and drop to move them to a different account.
Improved Handling of Multiple Timezones
Previously the app could separately display transactions made on the same day in different timezones. Now it should handle them correctly.
